Our services are split into three broad categories: Vehicle leasings, Fleet management and Fleet technology. With our years of experience, distinct professionalism and technical expertise, we lease out vehicles at the most convenient means of payment through uniquely designed leasing options and solutions to meet your fleet and financial needs. When we came into the market, we saw a huge gap in the industry, Lessors were experiencing huge losses when the lessee defaults in a lease transaction, and assets are consequently recovered.
This makes it difficult for the lessor to liquidate the asset at his book value and recover his investment, thus running at a loss. We created a solution to monitor the usage of the assets through direct mileage readings, to match the usage of the asset with its corresponding tenure. This helps in preserving the value of the asset throughout the tenure of the contract. Another lapse we identified in the industry was the lack of flexibility in leasing. We observed that lessors adopted the conventional monthly fixed rental system due to inadequate technology to monitor vehicle usage per kilometer and so could not accurately charge per kilometer.
Thus, we created a solution that tracks cost per kilometer, thereby allowing for more flexibility. FleetPartners revolutionized the leasing industry with our cutting-edge fleet management technology. Our remarkable success in the leasing business resulted in a strategy that allows us pay attention to every detail in the business. It also involved using the best technology that got every detail from the vehicle, thereby fully automating all processes. With a unique marketing and branding strategy, we introduced a new trend in the industry as the first leasing company to aggressively project our brand and create significant visibility online and offline.
This strategy replaced the traditional contact-based approach of marketing. At FleetPartners, we constantly strive to come up with better solutions to improve the vehicle leasing and fleet management needs for businesses and individuals in Nigeria. This has earned us awards in different categories in the past, among some of the awards are the Global Banking and Finance Review Awards for Best Leasing company in Nigeria presented in London, the International Finance Magazine?

Knowing this, we first identified OPIC commitments in sectors whose investors tend to be socially motivated, such as agriculture, health, education, renewable energy, finance, housing for the poor, and water and sanitation. From there, each individual investment was examined against the intentionality test to identify those investments that were specifically intended to bring positive social impact alongside financial sustainability.
All OPIC transactions aim to have development impact, but not all are tagged as impact investments. Two examples illustrate the distinction. The loan enabled the company to improve milk production and distribution, with 20 new milk collection centers throughout the country and strong local job creation. Sante has had a powerful development impact; however, according to our definition, it did not qualify as an impact investment because it was undertaken strictly as an economic venture.
In response to the needs of the impact investment sector, and to address the gaps in the sector, OPIC tailors its range of financial and insurance products to support impact investing. GBF provides financing and business advice to for-profit companies that have a strong commitment to bringing measurable and sustainable social and economic impact. With its two complementary vehicles, a private investment fund and a non-profit organization, GBF expects to invest in 40 to 50 businesses over the next five years, providing economic opportunity for millions of people.
Example: Global Partnerships. Global Partnerships provides loans to social enterprises, as well as microfinance investment vehicles that combine financial support with other non-financial services such as health care, education, or training.
Early-stage equity capital and co-investment opportunities—aligned capital: Most investments need different types of capital at different stages of the investment life cycle. Many impact investments that OPIC has reviewed have required early-stage grant or equity capital to cover operating losses or to establish proof-of-concept and make the project financeable. On the other hand, an early-stage risk capital provider may need access to larger amounts of capital to scale up its successful project.
Philanthropic capital is a solution here; it can be invested in a way that catalyses DFIs, which in turn catalyse commercial capital, creating a powerful leverage effect. Example: Portfolio for Impact Pi. Pi is a new initiative to increase OPIC support for smaller, highly developmental and innovative early-stage companies in the impact investment space.
This platform represents a response to the growing demand for OPIC to provide financing that supports the scaling-up of socially-oriented enterprises. Example: Rockefeller Foundation partnership. The partnership aims to create an innovation in process, whereby the two parties—and more parties in the future—can collaborate on and co-invest in impact investments that each institution would otherwise not have been able to consider on its own.
Political risk insurance for impact investors: OPIC offers insurance products that significantly mitigate specific risks posed to impact investors in developing countries. Political risk insurance offers protection against losses to tangible assets, investment value and earnings that result from political perils in developing countries. Without this insurance, potentially impactful investment may not take place. OPIC provides political risk insurance on loans made by investment funds managed by MicroVest to microfinance institutions throughout the developing world.

Prior to due diligence, we conduct a screen visit to gain a sense of how the potential investee is generating impact at the household level, and only proceed with full diligence once we are convinced of compelling social impact.
Furthermore, we use a variety of impact management tools, including poverty measurement indexes, client protection principles, and credible use of capital evaluations prior to approving a loan. Investments systematically include social and environmental sustainability practices in the due diligence process: Global Partnerships' screening and due diligence process includes a "responsible lending" review; compliance with this review is necessary but not sufficient to enter the portfolio GP goes on to assess alignment in terms of target market and product offering.
When organizations are not certified, they are flagged for review and additional screening. The application period to become an ImpactAssets 50 Fund Manager is open! Apply now. To stay informed on the application process, sign up here. Receive our latest news.
